Sewing vs. Weaving

My passion is weaving. However, lately, sewing has been more popular lately. A friend of mine asked me to make her a black messenger bag. She wanted it made with corduroy and satin - so I went to Salvation Army (here, Wednesday is half-off day) and found two pairs of black corduroy mens pants, a lovely satin skirt, and a corduroy shirt that I couldn't resist that is black with grey paisley. It has been so much fun! I love having projects requested because it makes me step out of my normal boundaries. M - pictures will be up soon!

I'm back!

Above is my hand dyed, hand woven shawl. I love the way the colors turned out!

Etsy takes so long to update! Of course, it doesn't help that most of my inventory went into there in the last two days! It's nice to see my weavings there, and I hope people will enjoy looking at them too! Here are some of the items that just went on:
Table Runners
Keyboard Covers

Bookmarks - these are my favorite!

Long time, no see!

It has been awhile since I've been here. I will put my recent projects on here for a record pretty soon, including pictures. I am also a member of Etsy now! My work can now be seen and purchased at http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5914659. More items will be placed on Etsy as soon as I get another sunny day, to take pictures!

My Dyes Have Arrived!!!

I got home from work today, and there on the porch was a box from Dharma - my dyes are here! One of my projects has been to weave shawls, twist the fringe, and then dye 2 of them. They are now woven and twisted, and dyeing them remains. I am making myself wait to open the box until later tonight. Now I must study, go to class, and then back to work again for Trivia Night!

The First Blog

So I am now starting this blog. We shall see where it goes. I live in a small village, technically a city, so says my husband! Part of me loves it, and part of it isn't so endearing. My husband and I are both attending college full time, I work part time at a cafe here in town, and I also own a weaving business, which is still more like a hobby rather than paying for itself. :) I have half a gazillion projects that I am in the middle of, or would like to start. I think this little blog will be used to see what I actually finish!

Here is a picture of the project I started and finished in the same week - probably a first, but maybe not, as I tend to procrastinate and this is my husband's late birthday present! He asked for a messenger bag, made out of the old jeans I have been collecting to make a quilt out of. He wanted a good, sturdy bag for when he is out in the field, with room enough for his thermos, a notebook, book, pens and his lunch. Here is the finished product. It also is reversible, allowing him to use whatever side he likes. The cat will not be going with him to class! :) Best of all - total cost OOP - $0! It wasn't the easiest project to draft, but it didn't take too long - and my trusty sewing machine stood up to the task well.
